Rotary Club of Friendswood

First Wine Tasting is a Fellowship Success

On Friday, September 23rd, fifty-six Rotarians from the Friendswood, Texas City and League City clubs met to sample each others' best liked wines.

Texas City Rotary President Darel Beene brought twenty of his club members to the event. Texas City Rotary Executive Secretary Dawn Tholcken was a key resource for Darel in planning the event. League City Rotarian Ed Richards and his wife came and helped make the event a success. Ed was at our prior weekly meeting and signed up on the spot to attend.

Three Friendswood Rotarians deserve praise for planning, preparing, setting up, hosting, and cleaning up. Charisse Arning and Robert Rinehart, as co-chairs of the "Fellowship Events Subcommitee," were responsible for all but the food. They did a great job making sure the event took place on time, and with a flair. Food planning, food pairing with wines, food plating and presentation, and continual service during the event was the province of Carolyn Zimmer of the Charleston Tea Room. Attendees from all three clubs were outspoken on the high quality, presentation and taste of the food. Thanks to Charisse, Robert and Carolyn for making the wine tasting a success.

We were asked the question several times about when we will do this again. In fact, Ulli Budelmann, our District Governor noted that this could be a good Fall Fund Raiser. More discussion is needed, but based on the good times had by all, we need to consider this again for next Fall.

One last note - the first bottle of wine emptied at the event was brought by Mike and Carol Marcantel. it must have been a good one!
