On Thursday, November 17, 2011, the Rotary Club of Friendswood had a ribbon cutting event at the new pergola.

Forty-one Rotarians and guests enjoyed "burgers and beer" in the Rotary Pavilion in Friendswood's Stevenson Park. With about fifteen volunteers, who set up, cooked and cleaned up, the event was a good opportunity to see "Service Above Self" in action. Moreover, it was a good time to recognize Jeremy Magnuson and Phil Messara for their hard work and close attention to detail in their efforts, respectively, to restore the pavilion from hurricane damage, and to build the new pergola from the concrete foundation up. The Rotary pavilion was built over fifteen years ago, as a joint effort with the City of Friendswood. It has been enhanced over the last few years by the efforts of Friendswood Rotarians, especially Past Presidents Christ Turner and Deloris McKenzie. Thanks to continuing efforts by the Club, the Rotary pavilion will continue to be a facility for the residents of Friendswood for years to come
